TEMPLE, TX — The Travis Science Academy 7th grade B girls' basketball team displayed grit and defensive intensity on Thursday evening, but ultimately fell to Lake Belton Middle School with a final score of 24-16 at Mustang Gym.
It was a defensive slugfest from the opening tip-off. The Lady Mustangs stayed within striking distance throughout the first half, trailing only 6-4 after the first quarter. Travis found their rhythm in the second frame, outscoring Lake Belton 9-6 to take a narrow lead into the halftime break.
Key Performers
The Lady Mustangs' scoring effort was well-balanced, led by Alianys Igartua-Vasquez, who paced the team with 5 points. Kadence Brooks and Evee Flowers both contributed 4 points apiece, while Sarah Morelock added 3 points to the tally.
Despite the strong start, the Lady Mustangs struggled to find the bottom of the net in the second half. Lake Belton’s defense tightened up, holding Travis to just three points in the third quarter and a scoreless fourth, allowing the visitors to pull away for the victory.
Looking Ahead
The Lady Mustangs will look to bounce back and get back into the win column next week. They remain at home to host River Valley Middle School on Thursday, January 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM at Travis Science Academy.
