TEMPLE, TX — The Travis Science Academy Lady Mustang 7th Grade B basketball team played a gritty, defensive-minded game on Thursday night, but ultimately fell to River Valley Middle School with a final score of 24-16 at Mustang Gym.
The contest was a tale of narrow margins and defensive stands, as both teams struggled to find consistent rhythm against aggressive coverage.
Game Breakdown
The opening frame saw both teams trading buckets in a balanced start, ending the first quarter deadlocked at 6-6. However, the second quarter proved to be the turning point. River Valley’s defense stiffened, holding the Lady Mustangs scoreless while netting 7 points of their own to take a 13-6 lead into the halftime break.
Travis fought back in the second half, matching River Valley nearly point-for-point. Despite a 6-4 third quarter in favor of River Valley and a perfectly even 6-6 split in the final period, the Lady Mustangs couldn't quite overcome that second-quarter scoring drought.
Lady Mustang Standouts
The scoring effort for Travis was led by Kadence Brooks, who finished the night with 6 points. Sarah Morelock and Evee Flowers each contributed 4 points in the paint, while Aly Vasquez rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
