The Travis Science Academy 8th Grade A basketball team defended their home court on Thursday evening, grinding out a 35-30 victory over River Valley Middle School at Mustang Gym.
Led by a dominant performance from Kam Tate, the Lady Mustangs held off a persistent River Valley squad to secure the win.
Game Breakdown
Travis jumped out to an early lead, outscoring River Valley 13-7 in the opening frame. However, the offense slowed down in the second and third quarters, allowing River Valley to chip away at the lead. Entering the final period up by only one point, the Lady Mustangs found their rhythm again, outscoring the visitors 11-9 to seal the five-point win.
Top Performers
The story of the night was Kam Tate, who delivered a massive "stat-sheet-stuffing" performance. Tate finished with a game-high 22 points, but her impact was felt everywhere on the floor, recording a double-double with 12 steals and adding 7 rebounds and 6 blocks. Tate set the tone early with 9 points in the first quarter and kept the momentum swinging with 8 points in the third, including a pair of timely 3-pointers.
Alalade Akiode provided the necessary secondary scoring punch, finishing with 8 points. Akiode was instrumental in the bookend quarters, scoring 4 points in the first and another 4 in the clutch fourth quarter. She also added 5 steals and 5 rebounds.
