HEWITT – The Travis Science Academy 8th grade A Lady Mustang basketball team traveled to Hewitt on Wednesday evening for a tough road test against Midway Middle School. Despite a relentless performance from their core leaders, the Lady Mustangs fell to the Blue Panthers with a final score of 48-28.

Game Breakdown

The Lady Mustangs found themselves in an early hole as Midway jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the first quarter. However, Travis showed incredible grit for the remainder of the contest, playing Midway even through the middle frames.

The Lady Mustangs matched the Blue Panthers point-for-point in both the second (8-8) and third (9-9) quarters, refusing to let the game slip away. It wasn't until the fourth quarter that Midway managed to extend their lead further, outscoring Travis 11-6 to seal the victory.

Standout Performances

Kam Tate put on a masterclass of all-around basketball, accounting for nearly 80% of the team's scoring. Tate finished the night with a massive double-double, dropping 22 points while hauling in 10 rebounds. She was equally effective on the defensive end, racking up 8 steals and 2 blocks. Tate's consistency was the engine for the Travis offense, scoring 7 points in both the second and third quarters before adding 6 in the final frame.

Alalade Akiode was a force on the boards and in the passing lanes, contributing 6 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals.

The defensive effort was bolstered by Kamorah Asselin, who disrupted the Midway offense with 4 steals and grabbed 5 rebounds, while Eden Felix added 2 rebounds and 1 steal to the defensive tally.

Looking Ahead

While the scoreboard didn't favor the Lady Mustangs this time, the team’s ability to compete stride-for-stride with Midway for three out of the four quarters provides plenty of momentum heading into the season finale.

The Lady Mustangs will return home to Mustang Gym on Monday, January 26, to host Bonham. This will be the final regular-season game for the squad, with tip-off scheduled for 8:00 PM. Come out and support these athletes as they look to close out the season with a win!
