Lady Mustangs 8th Grade Dominate Waco Invitational to Open 2026 Season

WACO, TX – The Travis Science Academy 8th grade Lady Mustang track and field team made a loud statement to open the 2026 season on Monday evening. Competing in a running-only meet at Paul Tyson Field, the Lady Mustangs showcased their depth and speed, sprinting away with a first-place team finish at the Waco Invitational.

Travis secured the top spot on the podium with an impressive 130 points, comfortably ahead of second-place Robinson (82 points) and third-place Tennyson (62 points).

Distance and Hurdles Set the Tone

The Lady Mustangs started the night with a masterclass in the 2400 meters, pulling off a podium sweep. Angelina Deholloz captured gold with a commanding time of 11:34.40, followed by teammates Sarahi Gonzales and Brisa Rico in second and third, respectively.

The dominance continued in the hurdles and sprints. Ja'Miyah Stonum proved to be a multi-event force, taking 1st Place in the 100-meter hurdles (19.15) and later securing a 3rd-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles. Kameryn Tate also highlighted the evening by claiming the title of the fastest girl at the meet, winning the 100-meter dash with a blistering 13.02.

Relay Excellence

Travis’s relay teams were nearly untouchable. The 4x100 and 4x200 teams both took home 1st Place finishes, demonstrating crisp handoffs and elite closing speed. The 4x400 team capped off the night with a strong 3rd-place finish to solidify the team victory.
