Mustang Speed: Travis 7th Grade Takes Silver at Waco Invitational

The Travis Science Academy Mustang 7th grade track and field team kicked off the 2026 season with a statement on Monday. Competing in a running-only meet at the Waco Invitational at Paul Tyson Field, the Mustangs showcased their depth and sprinting prowess to secure a 2nd Place finish in the overall team standings.

Travis earned a hard-fought 67 points, edging out Mart (62 points) for the runner-up spot. The Robinson Rockets took the top prize on the day with 169 points.

The Gold Standard: Top Performers

The Mustangs saw several athletes climb to the top of the podium, highlighted by a dominant showing in the short sprints and hurdles.

Jaliel Gates proved to be the fastest man on the track, taking 1st Place in the 100-meter dash with a blistering time of 12.66.
Felix Arizmendi showcased his versatility and technical skill, securing a 1st Place finish in the 300-meter hurdles, clocking in at 55.04.
Bradyn Rayson followed closely behind Gates in the 100 meters, taking 2nd Place (12.69) to give Travis a powerful one-two punch in the event.

The Relay Teams were the backbone of the Mustang scoring. Both the 4x100 and 4x200 squads earned 2nd Place finishes, proving that Travis has the chemistry to match their raw speed.

Season Outlook

With a trophy already in the case, the Mustangs will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next challenge. The team will travel to Little River-Academy on March 4 to compete in the Bumblebee Relays at Academy High School.
