The Travis Science Academy Mustang 8th grade track & field team officially opened their 2026 campaign on Monday night, delivering a gritty performance at the Waco Invitational. Competing at Paul Tyson Field in a meet exclusively focused on running events, the Mustangs proved they belong in the conversation this season, securing a 3rd place finish in the overall team standings.

Travis finished the night with 57 points, trailing only second-place Carver (67 points) and the meet champions from Robinson (154 points).

Relay Excellence & Podium Finishes

The Mustangs' speed was on full display during the relay events, which accounted for a significant portion of the team’s scoring.

The 4x100 relay team—composed of Darryl Luck, Jazavian Canady, Ka’son Harris-Jefferson, and Lajavien Clark—stormed to a 2nd place finish with a blistering time of 49.46. Later in the evening, the 4x200 relay team (Harris-Jefferson, Luck, Taran Sanders, and Clark) maintained that momentum, clinching 3rd place with a time of 1:44.39.

Lajavien Clark also stood out in individual competition, earning the Mustangs' highest individual finish of the night by taking 2nd place in the 200 meters with a time of 25.21.

Distance and Hurdles Grit

In the longer events, Easton Williams set the pace for the Mustangs in the 2400 meters, finishing 4th with a time of 9:01.21. Over in the 1600 meters, Zaden Jurca mirrored that effort with a 4th place finish of his own, crossing the line at 6:01.17.
