ACADEMY, TX – The Travis Science Academy 7th grade Lady Mustang Track & Field team hit the dirt at John Glover Stadium on Wednesday, March 4, for the Academy Bumblebee Relays. Competing in a massive field of 13 teams, the Lady Mustangs secured an 8th-place finish with a total of 27 team points.
While Lake Belton (124.5 points) and North Belton (105.5 points) took the top two spots on the leaderboard, the Lady Mustangs carved out several impressive individual and relay performances against stiff competition.
Top Performers and Highlights
The Lady Mustangs saw success across both the track and the field. Ashlyn Day and Payton McClain were the high-point earners of the day, both securing 3rd-place finishes in their respective specialties.
Sprints & Hurdles: Kaidence Brooks clocked a swift 13.96 in the 100 meters to take 4th place. In the 200 meters, Ashlyn Day stormed to a 3rd-place finish with a time of 29.21. On the hurdles side, Alianys Igartua-Vazquez battled through the 300-meter hurdles to secure 6th place in 59.33.
Relay Success: The Lady Mustang relay teams showed great chemistry. The 4x200 relay team took 4th place with a time of 2:02.11, while the 4x100 relay squad grabbed 6th place, crossing the line in 55.48.
Field Events: Payton McClain provided the highlight of the field events, leaping 14’2 ½ to earn 3rd place in the Long Jump.

Looking Ahead
The Lady Mustangs will look to build on these marks as they prepare for their next outing. The team will travel to Cameron, Texas, on March 11 to participate in the Cameron Invitational.
