7th Grade Lady Mustangs Charge to Second Place Finish at Waco ISD Relays

WACO, TX — The Travis Science Academy 7th Grade Lady Mustang Track & Field team put on an impressive display of speed, endurance, and field prowess yesterday at Paul Tyson Field. Competing in the Waco ISD Relays, the Lady Mustangs secured a strong 2nd Place finish in the team standings, racking up 114 points.

While Robinson took the top spot with 173 points, Travis managed to hold off a competitive Tennyson squad, who finished 3rd with 103 points.

Top Performers and Medalists

The Lady Mustangs saw a golden performance from Ashlyn Day, who captured 1st Place in the 200-meter dash with a blistering time of 28.80 seconds. Day's victory was a highlight of a day filled with podium finishes for the Travis squad.

The relay teams were instrumental in the team's high scoring. The 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400 relay teams all secured 2nd Place silver medals, showcasing the depth and chemistry of the roster. Notably, the 4x200 relay team turned in a powerhouse performance with a time of 1:47.78.

In the field and hurdles, Payton McClain and Alianys Igartua-Vasquez earned silver medals in the 100 hurdles and Shot Put respectively, while Adalae Haire and Kaidence Brooks both brought home bronze medals for their efforts on the track and in the Triple Jump.

The Lady Mustangs will look to carry this momentum into next week. On April 1st, the team travels to Lake Belton High School for the Central Texas District Divisional Meet. This is a high-stakes competition, as a top-four finish in any event will qualify the athletes for the Central Texas District Track & Field Championships.
