Lady Mustangs 8th Grade Gallop to Silver at Waco ISD Relays

WACO, TX – The Travis Science Academy 8th Grade Lady Mustang Track & Field team put on a dominant display of speed and skill at Paul Tyson Field on March 25th. In a high-stakes showdown at the Waco ISD Relays, Travis secured a stellar 2nd Place finish in the team standings, racking up 130 points.

The Lady Mustangs pushed Robinson High School to the limit, with Robinson narrowly taking 1st with 134 points, while Tennyson followed in 3rd with 116.

Gold Medal Dominance

The Lady Mustangs were the undisputed queens of the relay events. The powerhouse quartet of Ja'Miyah Stonum, Alalade Akiode, Leah Alexander, and Kameryn Tate swept the sprint relays, taking 1st Place in both the 4x100 Relay (53.47) and the 4x200 Relay (2:00.72).
Individual brilliance was also on display as Ja’Miyah Stonum secured 1st Place in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 19.18. Meanwhile, Kameryn Tate proved she is one of the fastest in the region, sprinting to 1st Place in the 100m dash at 13.37.

Alalade Akiode: 3rd Place in the 100m (13.79)
Leah Alexander: 3rd Place in the 200m (29.25)
Ke’Azya Day: 3rd Place in the 800m (3:03.83)
Elianna Casanova: 3rd Place in the 400m (1:12.72)
Katriel Ferris: Dual Bronze winner in the 100m Hurdles (20.73) and 300m (59.65)
4x400 Relay Team: 3rd Place (4:59.48) featuring Brisa Rico, Vivienne Allen, Aurelia Grace Gutierrez Juarez, and Elianna Casanova.

The Road Ahead

The Lady Mustangs will look to carry this momentum into the Central Texas District Divisional Meet on April 1st at Lake Belton High School. The stakes are high: the Top 4 finishers in each event will earn their spot in the Central Texas District Track & Field Championships.

With so many athletes currently sitting in medal positions, the Lady Mustangs are well-positioned for a deep post-season run.
