8th Grade Mustangs Charge to Fourth Place Finish at Waco ISD Relays

WACO, TX – The Travis Science Academy 8th Grade Mustang Track & Field team traveled to Paul Tyson Field on Wednesday, March 25, to compete in the highly competitive Waco ISD Relays. In a field of strong local programs, the Mustangs secured a respectable 4th Place finish in the team standings, tallying 69 points.

Robinson took the top spot with 195 points, followed by Lamar (100) and Tennyson (72). Despite missing the podium for the overall team title, several Mustangs turned in standout performances that have them primed for the upcoming district qualifiers.

Podium Finishers and Medalists

The Mustangs saw several athletes step onto the podium, proving they can compete with the best in Central Texas.

Lajavien Clark and Jeremiah Kprazeon led the charge as individual silver medalists. Clark blazed through the 100-meter dash in 11.92 seconds to take 2nd, while Kprazeon earned his silver in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:28.07.

The Mustangs also collected a haul of bronze medals. Easton Williams kicked off the distance events with a 3rd-place finish in the 2400 meters (9:04.31). On the hurdles side, Christian Jackson earned 3rd in the 110m hurdles (21.17), and Zaden Jurca followed Kprazeon's lead in the 800 meters, taking 3rd in 2:28.15. The 4x100 Relay team, comprised of Darryl Luck, Christopher Weaver, Taran Sanders, and Lajavien Clark, also secured 3rd place with a swift 47.66.

The Mustangs showed depth across the board, from the sprints to the jumping pits.

Distance & Hurdles

In the grueling 2400 meters, following Easton Williams' medal performance, Joel Lopez-Garcia took 7th (10:19.24) and Christian Ruzicka finished 9th (14:31.62). Later in the day, Williams returned to take 4th in the 1600 meters (5:46.49), with Aaron Aguilar coming in 9th (6:44.89). Aguilar also competed in the 800 meters, finishing 9th (2:48.21). In the 300-meter hurdles, Christian Jackson placed 9th (54.97), followed closely by Darin Harris in 10th (55.50) and Noah Carey in 15th (59.69). Harris also competed in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing 13th (26.02).

Sprints & Middle Distance

In the 100-meter dash, Darryl Luck secured 7th (12.66) and Nathan Seig took 15th (16.32). Jeremiah Kprazeon showcased his range by taking 6th in the 400-meter dash (1:02.50), while Joel Lopez-Garcia (10th, 1:09.84) and Daniel Rosales Lopez (11th, 1:11.16) also competed in the quarter-mile. In the 200-meter dash, Jazavian Canady finished 6th (26.06), with Noah Carey in 14th (28.80) and Jace Lara in 16th (29.51).

Relays

The Mustang relay teams were a major source of points. Beyond the 4x100 bronze, the 4x200 team (Christopher Weaver, Darryl Luck, Taran Sanders, Lajavien Clark) took 4th with a time of 1:45.34. The 4x400 team (Cesar Marin, Darin Harris, Zaden Jurca, Jeremiah Kprazeon) also grabbed a 4th-place finish, crossing the line at 4:07.00.

Field Events

In the jumping events, Christian Jackson flew to a 5th-place finish in the Triple Jump (32’8). In the Long Jump, Jazavian Canady led the Mustangs in 11th place (15’9 ½), followed by Darryl Luck in 13th (14’6 ½) and Jace Lara in 16th (12’8).

Looking Ahead

The Mustangs will now shift their focus to the Central Texas District Divisional Meet on April 1st at Lake Belton High School. This is a "must-perform" meet, as only the top four finishers in each event will qualify for the Central Texas District Track & Field Championships.
