TEMPLE, TX – Under the lights of Wildcat Stadium on April 1, the Travis Science Academy Lady Mustang 8th grade track and field team battled through a competitive field at the Temple School Cen-Tex Divisional Meet. Facing off against some of the region's stiffest competition, the Lady Mustangs secured a 5th place team finish with 73 points, proving they have the speed and strength to compete with the best.
Midway High School took the top spot in the team standings with 198 points, followed by North Belton in second with 178.
For the Lady Mustangs, the stakes were high: only the top four finishers in each event earned a guaranteed spot at the Cen-Tex Middle School District Championships. Travis successfully qualified several athletes and relay teams for the upcoming finale at Midway High School.
Championship Bound: Top Performers
The Lady Mustangs' evening was highlighted by gold-medal performances and dominant relay showings.
Kameryn Tate was the standout star of the field events, claiming 1st Place in the Triple Jump with a leap of 30’10. Tate also showed off her elite speed on the track, taking 2nd Place in the 100 meters (12.81). She was joined in the 100-meter sprint by Alalade Akiode, who secured 3rd Place with a time of 13.39, ensuring both Lady Mustangs will represent Travis at District.
In the distance and power events, Elianna Casanova fought her way to a 4th Place finish in the 400 meters (1:09.35), while Alalade Akiode showcased her versatility by taking 4th Place in Discus with a toss of 68’10.
The relay teams provided the biggest thrill of the night. The 4x200 Relay team, comprised of Ja’Miyah Stonum, Alalade Akiode, Leah Alexander, and Kameryn Tate, scorched the track to take 1st Place with a time of 1:54.29. The same quartet also qualified in the 4x100 Relay, taking 3rd Place in 52.43.

The qualifying Lady Mustangs will head to Panther Stadium at Midway High School in Hewitt on April 7th for the Cen-Tex Middle School District Championships. Field events are scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM, followed by the Running Finals at 6:00 PM.
