TEMPLE, TX — History was made Thursday evening as the Travis Science Academy 7th Grade Lady Mustang soccer team took to the pitch for their inaugural home opener at the brand-new Travis Mustang Field. While the scoreboard ultimately favored the visiting Bonham Middle School Lady Bulldogs, the night marked a significant milestone for the TSA athletic program.
A Historic Kickoff
The atmosphere was electric as the Lady Mustangs played their first-ever game in their home stadium. Facing a seasoned Bonham squad, Travis showed flashes of grit and potential throughout the match.
The Lady Bulldogs took control early, utilizing a powerful offensive transition to secure a 5-1 victory. Despite the pressure, the Lady Mustangs refused to go quietly, battling for possession and finding their rhythm as the game progressed.
Highlight of the Night
The definitive moment for the home crowd came courtesy of Mya McFarland. Showing impressive speed and ball control, McFarland found an opening in the Lady Bulldog defense to slot home the first-ever goal scored by a Lady Mustang at the new stadium.
McFarland’s strike served as a rallying point for the team, proving that while the "first-game jitters" were present, the Lady Mustangs have the offensive tools to compete in the district.

Head coach and the Lady Mustangs won't have to wait long for a shot at redemption. The team will remain at home for their next matchup, looking to build on the lessons learned from their season opener.
