TEMPLE, TX — The Travis Science Academy combined 7th and 8th grade soccer team kicked off their season in spectacular fashion on Thursday, delivering a clinical 6-1 victory over Bonham Middle School. Playing under the lights at Herman Anderson Field, the Mustangs showcased a high-octane offense and a stifling defense that left the Bulldogs searching for answers.

First Half: The Rosales-Lopez Show

Travis wasted no time asserting their will on the pitch. The opening half was defined by crisp passing and clinical finishing, much of it centered around Angel Rosales-Lopez.

The scoring opened when Rosales-Lopez found the back of the net off a well-placed assist from Cesar Marin. The momentum stayed with the Mustangs as Hudson Macey doubled the lead, slotting home a goal after a selfless setup by Rosales-Lopez. Before the halftime whistle blew, Rosales-Lopez struck again for his second goal of the night, this time assisted by Greg Higgins, sending Travis into the break with a commanding lead.

Second Half: Depth and Defense

The Mustangs didn't take their foot off the gas in the second period. The playmaking masterclass continued as Anthony Crisostomo scored thanks to yet another assist from the prolific Rosales-Lopez.

Travis’s aggressive forecheck also paid dividends; Jesse Landeros extended the lead after a brilliant individual effort, stealing the ball directly from a Bonham defender and finishing unassisted. Joel Lopez-Garcia capped off the scoring clinic with a powerful unassisted goal of his own.

While the offense garnered the headlines, the Mustang defense remained rock solid. Hayden Whitaker patrolled the net during the first half, keeping the Bulldogs at bay, while Gilberto Reyes took over duties in the second half to seal the win.

The Mustangs will look to carry this momentum on the road as they travel to Copperas Cove.
