MCGREGOR - The Travis Science Academy 7th Grade B volleyball team officially kicked off their season Thursday night, taking the court for a tough road matchup against River Valley Middle School. Despite a spirited effort on the road, the Lady Mustangs were unable to quiet the home crowd, falling to the Lady Panthers in straight sets (25-10, 25-13).

River Valley set the tempo early, putting pressure on Travis with consistent serving and crisp ball movement. The Lady Panthers controlled the opening frame to take a 25-10 victory, then kept the momentum rolling through the second set to seal the match.

Even with the scoreboard tilted against them, the Lady Mustangs showed bright flashes of execution and steady individual play:

Gabrielle Lyons: Led the way at the service line and in the back row, pacing the team with 6 good serves and 4 great passes.

Ranesme Garza: Provided a reliable second option on defense and service, contributing 3 good serves along with 3 great passes.

Both players kept Travis in long rallies and showcased the team's potential as they continue to build chemistry early in the season.

The Lady Mustangs will look to bounce back quickly as they prepare for their home opener. Travis returns to action on Thursday, September 3, when they host crosstown rival Lamar Middle School at Mustang Gym. First serve is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
