McGREGOR — The Travis Science Academy 8th Grade B Lady Mustang volleyball team opened their 2026 season Thursday evening on the road, falling to the host River Valley Middle School Lady Panthers by a score of 25-13, 25-8.

Despite a tough matchup away from home, the Lady Mustangs showcased bright spots at the service line and at the net. Payton McClain led the effort for Travis, turning in a strong all-around performance with four aces and two kills. Teammate Maren Garcia matched McClain at the net with two kills of her own while contributing an ace to the squad's service tally.

River Valley found rhythm early in both sets, taking advantage of home-court momentum to pull away from the Lady Mustangs. Still, the Travis squad continued to fight for points behind their solid serving and net play down the stretch.

The Lady Mustangs will look to bounce back when they return home for their next contest. Travis is back in action on Thursday, September 3, when they host crosstown rival Lamar Middle School at Mustang Gym. Match play is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
