TEMPLE, Texas — The Travis Science Academy Lady Mustang 8th Grade "B" volleyball team bounced back in impressive fashion Thursday evening, sweeping Copperas Cove SC Lee Junior High in straight sets (25-21, 25-10) in front of an energetic home crowd at Mustang Gym.
After digging deep to pull out a competitive opening set, the Lady Mustangs found their rhythm early in the second, dominating from the service line and controlling the net to seal the victory. With the win, Travis improves to 2-1 on the season.
The Lady Mustangs featured a balanced attack led by strong performances at the net and consistent serving:
Lawrenn Grandville: 3 kills, 7 serves made, 1 ace
Jordyn Mathis: 2 kills, 7 serves made, 2 aces
Dania Dampeer: 1 kill, 4 serves made, 2 aces
Grandville paced the offense with a team-high three kills, while Mathis and Dampeer provided high-energy play from behind the service line, combining for four aces to keep SC Lee on the defensive throughout the second set.
The Lady Mustangs will look to build on their momentum when they hit the road on Thursday, September 17, to take on North Belton Middle School. First serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
